Terms of Use
Effective date: October 24, 2026
In short: it's a free tool, provided as is. It can be wrong, so always rely on Canvas for your official deadlines and grades. Follow your school's rules. It isn't affiliated with Instructure.
These terms apply to the Assignment Tracker for Canvas browser extension (the "Extension") and this website (the "Site"), maintained by David Menendez as an independent open-source project (the "Developer"). By installing or using the Extension or the Site, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use them.
1. License
The Extension's source code is free software released under the MIT License. You may use, copy, modify, and distribute it under that license. If anything in these terms conflicts with the MIT License regarding the source code, the MIT License controls.
2. What the Extension is, and isn't
- It is an informational tool that displays data your Canvas site already provides to you.
- It is not an official Canvas or school product, and it is not a replacement for Canvas, your syllabus, or communication with your instructors.
- It does not give academic, legal, or professional advice.
3. Accuracy: Canvas is the official source
The Extension interprets data reported by Canvas, which may be incomplete, delayed, or configured differently by your school or instructor (for example, offline grading, hidden grades, individual extensions, or time-zone differences). Badges such as "Overdue", "Closed", or "15 pts left" are approximations.
You are responsible for checking your deadlines, submissions, and grades directly in Canvas and with your instructors. The Developer is not responsible for missed deadlines, lost points, or any academic consequence resulting from reliance on the Extension.
4. Your responsibilities
- Use the Extension only with your own Canvas account and in line with your school's acceptable-use policies and Canvas's terms.
- Don't use the Extension, or modified versions of it, to access data you aren't authorized to see, or to overload Canvas services.
- If your school doesn't allow browser extensions on its systems, follow your school's rules.
5. Trademarks and affiliation
The Extension is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Instructure, Inc. or any educational institution. "Canvas" and "Instructure" are trademarks of Instructure, Inc. and are used only to describe compatibility. All other trademarks belong to their respective owners. The name "Assignment Tracker" and its icon are not intended to suggest any official relationship.
6. Third-party services
The Extension works with Canvas, which is provided by your school and Instructure under their own terms. The Site is hosted on GitHub Pages, and the project uses GitHub for code and issues, under GitHub's terms. The Developer has no control over, and is not responsible for, those services.
7. No warranty
THE EXTENSION AND SITE ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. The Extension may stop working at any time, for example if Canvas changes.
8. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE DEVELOPER AND CONTRIBUTORS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR EXEMPLARY DAMAGES, INCLUDING ACADEMIC OUTCOMES, LOSS OF DATA, OR LOSS OF OPPORTUNITY, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE EXTENSION OR SITE, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. Some jurisdictions don't allow certain limitations, so some of the above may not apply to you; in that case liability is limited to the smallest extent allowed by law.
9. Privacy
The Extension does not collect personal data. See the Privacy Policy for details.
10. Changes and termination
The Developer may update these terms; the new version will be posted here with a new effective date, and the history is visible in the public repository. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated terms. You can stop using the Extension at any time by uninstalling it. The project may be discontinued at any time.
11. Your statutory rights
Nothing in these terms limits any rights you have under consumer-protection or other laws that cannot be waived by contract.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute arising from these terms or the Extension will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Miami-Dade County, Florida, unless the law of your place of residence gives you a non-waivable right to bring it elsewhere.
